Full Text

On Monday last, as they were towing in a scow belonging to Mr. Hellems of this place, she struck the pier at the entrance of the canal at Chippawa, broke loose, and in consequence of the violence of the wind, was driven violently into the rapids and precipitated over the Niagara Falls. Mr. Hellmens and the Captain had a narrow escape both being on the boat when she broke loose, and only saved themselves by jumping on the pier.
