PROPELLER DEPERE WRECKED
The propeller DEPERE, of the Goodrich Line, bound north along this shore from Chicago with a general cargo, went ashore on Two River Point Sunday night. She is high up on the beach, and it is feared will become a total wreck. Captain Butlin, the Superintendent of the Goodrich Line, left Chicago yesterday for the scene of the disaster. There was no loss of life. She had no passengers and the crew are all safe. [ so say reliable advices received by the Goodrich Company] The steamer lies in an exposed position. The cargo is probably damaged.
The DEPERE measures 736 tons. She was built at Manitowoc by G. Rand in 11873 for the Goderich Company, has been well kept and rates A 2. Her valuation is about $50,000.
