STEAMER AND BARGE GO ASHORE.
Boats Bound For Tonawanda Lost Their Course in Thick Fog.
Near Wind Mill Point, midway between Crystal Beach and the mouth of the Niagara river, the steamer FLEETWOOD with the barge MORAVIA in tow, went ashore this morning. The boats were on their way to Tonawanda, and were loaded with iron ore. They are owned by the Tonawanda Iron & Steel Company. The FLEETWOOD was reported as leaking badly. Arrangements were made to lighter the cargo of each boat.
It is said the grounding of the boats was due to a thick cloud of smoke and dust, hanging over the lake where the accident occurred.

After removing about 150 tons of ore from the propeller FLEETWOOD, which went ashore near Windmill Point, on the Canadian shore, yesterday, the tugs CONSTITUTION and PADDY MILES succeeded in pulling the vessel off the rocks. The FLEETWOOD started away, but had got only a short distance before she again went on the rocks. The tugs again went to work on her, but it was after midnight before she was released. She proceeded to Tonawanda, leaking slightly.
