Description
Full Text

The steamer AURORA, which burned in the Detroit River on Monday was probably the strangest built and most powerful wooden steamer on the lakes. She came out in 1887, built by Murphy and Miller of Cleveland and was 2,282 gross tons. She was fast in the ice near Amherstburg. The tug LOHRMAN rescued the crew after the watchman first smelled smoke at 4:50 o'clock and the crew tried in vain to stop the fire. She lies near Bois Blanc Island and is a complete wreck.
