THE SCOW SCHOONER EUGENE. -- The toledo Blade has the following particulars of her loss:
This vessel was chartered by Capt. Drummond, of Detroit, to raise the schooner A. A. CORNWELL. The EUGENE with pumps, accompanied by a tug, reached the wreck of the CORNWELL on Friday morning last. The pumps were put to work and continued working until Saturday noon, when the wind commenced blowing a gale. The tug then left them, and satisfied that himself and crew would be safer on the wreck than upon the scow, Captain Breyman got his wife and crew upon the CORNWELL, and had barely done so, when the scow broke loose, a wave swept her far away, and in a short time she capsized, and floated off towards Point au Pelee. The storm continued to increase, and they were forced to remain until Tuesday forenoon, nearly all the time the sea making a clean sweep over them. During the height of the gale the captain was under the necessity of lashing himself and wife to a portion of the wreck, being without food, they ate the sour corn taken from the hold of the vessel, but after a little time, this made them vomit, they could not eat any more, and had to endure the gnawings of hunger as well as the fury of the elements. Tuesday forenoon, the schooner LUCY CLARK, Capt. A. Reid came to the rescue of Capt. Breyman and crew, and transferred them to the schooner. The EUGENE, Capt. Breyman's vessel was built in this city about two years ago, and was worth probably, $4,000 to $4,500. She was uninsured.
