Ardent (Schooner), U563, struck pier, 1 Jan 1878

Description
Full Text

Frankfort, January 1, 1879:-- The schooner ARDENT came into this port yesterday in the height of a heavy gale with a tremendous sea. She made the run from Sheboygan, Wis., to this port in 12 hours. The seas were continually washing over her while outside. The crew were almost perishing, their clothes being frozen to their bodies, and had had to be cut to get them off. Their escape from foundering is almost miraculous. The vessel struck the pier in coming in and was considerably damaged.
