Old time waterfront frequenters recalled Wednesday that a floating elevator was once used in Oswego to transfer grain from the schooners and small steamships of those days to canal carriers, but the operation was not a success, due to the fact that the lake carriers had to wait sometimes for days, until sufficient barges would be available to take the vessels' cargoes.
