May 31. - Last Tuesday, 21st., the schooner Emma was working up the lake; the sea being rough she was compelled to run back. While in the lee of Cherry Island, the mate, Perl Phelps, discovered a boat upside down and a man clinging to it . he immediately lowered the yawl and went to rescue the man who proved to be Fred Horton. He was taken ashore safely, but was exhausted through the efforts to keep on top of the boat.
