The Buffalo Pilot has the following
Thursday, May 29
We noticed yesterday morning that the departing boats charged uniform rates of passage and freight, which is a pretty sure indication that opposition has ceased. It was understood that an association of steamboat owners had at length been formed, but the exact basis of the arrangement, we have not learned. The charge for cabin passage to Chicago is $12, steerage $6 -- cabin to Detroit $6, steerage $3 -- and proportionate to others ports. Freights 34 and 30 cents per hundred to Chicago, and 14 and 20 to Detroit -- to Cleveland 10 and 15. Should the association be perfected in its details, the rates will doubtless soon be made public.
