Gleaned in the Local Harbor. Diver Pearl Purdy on Saturday met with an accident that resulted in the loss of the index finger and thumb of the left hand at the first joint. He was employed on the Kate Williams at Jackson Harbor, being engaged in dynamiting the wheel off the shaft. While standing around on deck Saturday he was inspecting a dynamite cup, carelessly picking at it with a knife. An explosion followed and his finger and thumb were badly torn. He came here Monday.
