Chicago, March 23. - (Special.) - The American Lloyds, which is the first of the outside vessel registers to appear in competition with Inland Lloyds, was issued to-day. This is the work which many vesselmen have attempted to boycott for fear it would reduce the valuation of their boats. A careful comparison of the new register with Inland Lloyds of last year shows that a general reduction of about 10 per cent has been made in valuations. The new register is much more complete than Inland Lloyds, and seems to be fair on both valuation and ratings. It is issued by the American Shipmaster's Association, of New York, under the direction of W. W. Bates.
