Pic Nic

A grand Pic Nic party came off last Monday on behalf of the Benevolent Fund of the Masons Lodge of this Town.

The steamer Canadian (Capt. Smith) having been chartered to covey the excursionists to the Christian Islands a large number of our townspeople availed themselves of the occasion. The steamer called at Meaford, and a pretty large number added to swell those already on board, from whence the steamer started for Collingwood, and thence to the Islands, where having got on shore the excursionists roamed about for a few hours and then embarked for Meaford and Owen Sound, which was reached at a late hour, the party highly gratified with their day's pleasure.

... Great thanks are due to the Committee for the way in which the trip was so successfully carried out, and also our worthy Captain of the Canadian in bringing them safe home again. About 300 tickets were sold. The Owen Sound Brass Band, under the superintendence of Mr. Rawsan, contributed to enhance the pleasures of the day - Communicated
