Steamers running to Owen Sound call at Meaford

Dominion Day ... the people of Collingwood observed the first of July as a public holiday... while about 400 availed themselves of the Fireman's Excursion to take a trip to Owen Sound on the steamer Francis Smith. The excursionists we believe had a very pleasant time, except that quite a number were so unfortunate to become sea-sick which rather spoiled their fun.

THE TWELFTH OF JULY - ...While a party of about 500 from Owen Sound, and Meaford came to Collingwood by steamer Francis Smith. The weather was all that could be desired and the excursionists seemed to enjoy the beauty of Collingwood. The Francis Smith returned with the party at 5 o'clock in the afternoon so they would have the pleasure of crossing the bay by moonlight.

The PRINCE ALFRED - returned from the Sault last Friday morning after a few days cruise on the lake. She remains here awaiting further orders.
