Northern Advance (Barrie, ON), November 6, 1879

Full Text

The Northern Belle had a very narrow escape from destruction by fire on her way up Georgian Bay recently. The boat was under full headway in the midst of the lake when the hurricane deck took fire the sparks flying from the smokestack. Under the cool and resolute command of Captain Foote the crew and passengers attacked the fire and after the most strenuous exertions succeeded in extinguishing it, but not until one of her life boats and portions of the vessel had been consumed.
