The Eclipse - The finest and fastest steamer that has as yet made her appearance on Lake Ontario, was launched lately from the Niagara Dock, by Mr. Bethune, the enterprizing proprietor of the Royal Mail Steamboat Line. On a trial of speed, by the Eclipse with the United States steamer, Lady of the Lake, between Niagara and Toronto, the Eclipse outran the Lady, by four minutes and a-half. The challenge was given by the Lady of the Lake, and was quite unexpected by the Eclipse, - no time being allowed for preparation.
The Lady of the Lake has heretofore been considered the fastest boat on Lake Ontario. The Eclipse has taken her place on the route between Toronto and Hamilton. She is commanded by Captain Sutherland, long and favourably know on the Lake. - Toronto Colonist.
