p.2 City Council - Vessel Assessment - The petition of Captain Taylor and about 200 others, asking the Council to petition the Attorney-General for the repeal of that portion of the law relating to the assessment of vessels, on the grounds that they derived no benefit from the city; that they were sufficiently taxed by canal dues, etc., besides insurance; that during the past 2 years they have depreciated in value 30%; that their gross earnings are not proportionate to their gross running expenses; that the law as at present administered is ruinous to vessel owners. - the petition of Capt. Taylor will be forwarded to city member along with a petition.
