Coal Oil Smuggling - sloop Flirt of Oswego seized near Howe Island, towed in by steamer Queen.

Tourists - props and steamers are busy on river, Spartan had a large party.

The Tonnage Tax - vessels leaving Chicago don't have to carry nominal cargo for American port in order to get out of paying tonnage dues on bulk of cargo to Canadian ports.

Aug. 9, 1876

p.2 ad - Three Times A Week to Oswego & Rochester - R. & O. Nav. Co. - Royal Mail Line and Express Line.

Marine - arrivals and departures.

Aug. 10, 1876

p.2 Steel Rails - shipped on Scotia, Celtic, Europe and steambarge Lincoln for Fort William.

p.3 Lake Freights - from various ports to Kingston; depression in trade.

Marine - arrivals at Swift's dock.

Wind Wafts - yacht Moubray ashore at Lemoines Pt., schooner rigged, pulled off by Lady Franklin.

Direct Trade With Liverpool - T.C. Street and E. Blake carrying timber, others to follow. [Montreal Herald]

Marine - steamers calling at Swifts.

Today - Countess of Dufferin racing for Queen's Cup at N.Y.

p.3 At Brockville - yacht Zitella of Kingston.

W.W. - The steam yacht Marquis of Lorne is running on Burlington Bay.

Yachting - Belleville vs Kingston boats - Peerless, Zitella, Emma, Surprise, Katie Grey.
