p.1 Personal Mention - Capt. A. Welsh, sr., late master of the schr. G.M. Neelon, will sail the steambarge Dominion this season. His son, A. Welsh, will be master of the str. Modjeska.

Capt. M.D. Estes will command the str. St. Lawrence next season.

p.1 General Paragraphs - Capt. Thompson, Oswego, has settled the libel against the tug May Queen by paying $200.

The str. Sylvan Stream, of Rochester, which occasionally called here during the summer, is to be sold.

Winter Marine News.

Several boats have been placed to carry coal from Cleveland to the head of Lake Superior and to Lake Michigan. They are to load before the opening of navigation at 50 cents to the head of Lake Superior and 60 cents to Chicago and Milwaukee. The shipper who took the boats is anxious to get others to load at Toledo at the same rates, and will, he says, take more to load at Cleveland later. One vesselman refused to charter any of his boats to load at Toledo at the above rates.

R.K. Winslow has sold his eighth of the steamer Cormorant to Capt. Carlson Graves for $5,000. Capt. Graves will sail her the coming season. He was in the schr. Charles Wall last season.

p.1 Incidents of the Day - The tug Eleanor is having alterations made to her wheelhouse.

The Portsmouth breakwater is nearly finished. The work is being well done.

General Paragraphs - The Rathbun company is going to build a side wheel steamer to take the place of the steamer Quinte, burned last year. Capt. Pierce will likely draw the lines.
