A Canal Smash Up.
The steamer Corinthian, bound west, struck the north gate of lock 20, Cornwall, on Thursday night, with great violence and tore it from its fastenings. The barge Corn Crib was locking at the time. The steamer was driven back by the force of the water. The eddy carried her forward immediately and she struck the south gate and damaged it considerably. Word was immediately sent superintendent Ross, and in a very short time the government men were working at the repairs.
