President William Livingstone, of the Lake Carriers' Association, was in Chicago Monday.

C. L. Perkins, general agent in Buffalo for the D. &. C., is in Detroit for a conference with officers of the company.

Thomas Roach has been made foreman of the D. & C. warehouses for the steamers of the Cleveland division.

Steamer Alaska, of the Mullen Coal company, after a thorough overhauling, has gone into commission for the season.

Empire Engineering corporation is using a derrick scow of the United States government in clearing away rock removed in the improvement of the upper approach to Livingstone Channel.

"Hughie" McMillen has been appointed general foreman of the docks of the D. & C., filling the position vacated by the death of Martin Sinclair last year. Mr. McMillan was the foreman of the warehouses of the Buffalo division last year.

Captain John Lightbody will take command of the D. & C. steamer City of Detroit II, Tuesday, relieving Capt. Fred J. Simpson, who will begin supervising the fitting out of the new steamer City of Detroit III, whose first trip of the season will be made in June, taking Board of Commerce members for their annual cruise.

With a large cargo of freight and a good passenger list, the D. & C. steamer City of Cleveland III left at 5 p. m. Monday on her first trip in command of Capt. Eugene Hayward, inaugurating daily service between Detroit and Buffalo. Harry C. Barter, Jr., promoted from one of the other boats of the fleet, made his first trip as purser.

B. H. Billman, President of the National Railway News association, which has concessions on steamers of the D. & C. fleet is in Detroit arranging for equipping the news stands for the vessels. Mr. Billman is a former Detroiter but now resides in Buffalo. He returned recently from a 2,100 mile tour of European and eastern countries.

Breaking of casting in her boom disabled the dredge Brian Boru of the Dunbar & Sullivan fleet, which is working on the spoil bank of Livingstone channel. The derrick scow, Handy Andy, is loading scows at the spoil bank.

Duff & Gatfield have two gasoline launches in operation at their marine reporting office at Texas Landing, below Sandwich, Ont.

With the steamer Surveyor of the United States Lake Survey office, a party in charge of M. S. McDairmid, junior engineer, left Monday for Buffalo to resume the work of dragging the east end of Lake Erie in the vicinity of Point Abino, in an effort to locate the light vessel No. 82, which was lost with her crew of six in the storm of November 9 last year.
