p.1 General Paragraphs - The Calvin company's new steamer Ceylon will be launched at Garden Island next Thursday at four o'clock.

An Addition To The Lake Fleet - West Superior, Sept. 11th - The American steel barge company has ordered four steamers and two barges. The vessels will be of uncommon size for whalebacks, 306 feet in length, and designed for lake traffic exclusively. They will cost $750,000.

The Canadian channel, Gananoque, Fiddler's Elbow, Lost Channel, Echo Point, Rockport, Fairyland, Summerland, Alexandria Bay, American channel, Devil's Oven, etc., by night under the powerful rays of the St. Lawrence's mammoth electric search light, Saturday, Sept. 12th, 5 p.m.

Incidents of the Day - A deckhand on the barge Mary Bedford had his thumb cut off by being jammed between the barge and the stone pier, at Ottawa.



Clearances: tug Active and five barges, Montreal, grain; tug Charley Ferris, Oswego, light.

The steamer Clinton with barges Lisgar and Grimsby loaded with deals will leave tonight for Detroit.

The str. Alberta arrived today from Cape Vincent with 4,000 cheese to be transhipped for Europe via Montreal.

The prop. Alma Munro lightened 8,500 bushels of wheat from Chicago yesterday and proceeded to Montreal this morning.

Arrivals: prop. Tilley and consorts Neelon and Augusta, Chicago, rye and corn; sloop Laura, Cape Vincent, light; tug Charley Ferris and barges, Oswego, light.
