p.1 General Paragraphs - The str. Lorelei, lying near the round house, took fire in the hold at noon today. The damage done was slight. The fire originated through a spark coming from a stove on the upper deck, where men were working. The fire was put out with pails of water.
The str. post for the prop. Algonquin arrived from Hamilton today. A shoe has been put on and the rudder post attached, so that now it is all in one piece. The post weighs nine tons.
Incidents of the Day - Capt. Simmons will run the barge Ceylon again next year. He is now looking for a mate, as mate G. Rogie, with him, last year, will sail the Calvin Co.'s new barge.
A meeting of the R. & O. N. Co. occurs on Thursday next when captains and principal officers will be appointed for the coming year. It is thought that Kingstonians commanding boats last year will have the same crafts.
Government To Decide - annual meeting of board of trade; mention that 60 vessels have been docked in dry-dock.
p.2 The Value of the Boats - The steamers of the Richelieu & Ontario navigation company are thus valued: Columbia, $123,000; Corsican, $68,000; Spartan, $73,000; Algerian, $60,000; Passport, $60,000; Magnet, $40,000; Bohemian, $52,000; Cultivateur, $32,000. At the recent meeting in Montreal these were elected directors: Messrs. Hon. Thos. McGreevy, Wm. Wainright, J. Grenier, John Paterson, N.K. Connolly, Wm. G. Murray, Hector Mackenzie, M. Connolly, Joseph Louis and F. Henshaw. N.K. Connolly has been elected president.
