MARINE INTELLIGENCE.

There is plenty of work ahead for the Garden Island fleet.

Wheat rates from Chicago to Kingston are quoted at 3 1/8 cents.

The schr. Ella Murton left for Oswego today for a cargo of lumber.

The str. Arizona with consorts will clear for Oswego and load coal for Duluth.

The M.T. Co. has sent twenty barges of grain to Montreal in the past two days.

Capt. Powers, manager of the R. & O. navigating company for this district, is in the city.

The work on the str. Empire State is advancing rapidly. She is on the ways at Portsmouth.

The str. Magnet arrived in from Hamilton today with a big load of passengers and freight.

The str. Rideau Belle cleared for Perth and Smith's Falls today on her first trip this season.

At Port Colborne the str. A. Everett was fined $200 for damage done in the canal a year ago. The fine was paid.

Clearances: Str. Egyptian, Oswego, to load coal for Duluth; tugs Bronson and Active with barges, Montreal; str. Glengarry with consort Minnedosa, Toledo.

Yesterday the prop. Melbourne of the Merchant's line left Gunn's dock for Cleveland. All the steamers of the Merchants' line will coal at Gunn's dock this season.

Arrivals: str. Rosedale, Duluth, 58,000 bushels wheat; str. Arizona and consorts Plymouth and Scotia, Chicago, 85,000 bushels corn; schr. Warmington, Chicago, 35,000 bushels white corn.

Passed down at Port Dalhousie - str. A. Everett, Chicago to Kingston, corn; barge J.H. Warrington, schr. Queen of the Lakes, Toledo to Kingston, corn; str. Rosedale, Duluth to Kingston, wheat.

p.4 Burned To The Water's Edge - Collingwood, May 4th - News reached here of the destruction of the steamer Truant by fire. Report says she was burned to the water's edge. She ran ashore on Burnt Island, Georgian Bay, and in an endeavor to take her off she caught fire and though everything was done to save her all was in vain. She was owned by Herbert Cleland, of this town.
