p.1 General Paragraphs - The str. Chieftain arrived up from Montreal, today, at Garden Island, and cleared again for Ogdensburg.

p.2 Bedford Mills, Aug. 27th - ...The tug Pointer, engaged towing rafts on Devil Lake, was caught in a heavy blow last week, and had it not been for the able management of the captain, who was at the wheel at the time and succeeded in beaching her at Papoose Island, some lives might have been lost. As it was very little damage was done.



The schr. Fleetwing got in this morning with a cargo of coal for Swift & Co.

Arrivals: Str. Passport, Toronto; str. Bon Voyage, Charlotte; str. Corsican, Montreal.

The str. Pilgrim arrived up from Montreal last night. She was running a ferry down there during the Knights Templar excursion.

The str. America ran an excursion to Ogdensburg today, and she had about 150 passengers. A more delightful day could not be asked for.

Passed Port Colborne, down: Strs. D.R. Van Allen, Parry Sound to Oswego, lumber; Niagara, Toledo to Montreal, corn. Passed up: Langdon, Ogdensburg to Chicago, general cargo; Cuba, Montreal to Toledo, general cargo.

Passed Port Dalhousie, up: str. Cuba, Montreal to Toledo, general cargo; yacht Zelma, Hamilton to Port Dalhousie, light; str. Nicaraqua, Oswego to West Superior, coal; str. D.D. Calvin, barges Augustus, Ceylon and Norway, Kingston to Duluth, light; str. Bayfield, Port Dalhousie to Port Colborne, light. Passed down: Str. F.H. Prince, Chicago to Ogdensburg, general cargo; barge Hyderabad, barge Bangalore, Sault Ste. Marie to Toronto, general; str. St. Magnus, Cleveland to Port Dalhousie, light.

It Will Hurt Shipping - lake levels will be affected by the Chicago canal.
