J. Donnelly, jr., arrived yesterday in charge of the barge Joseph Arthur R., sunk in the Galloups recently. It was necessary to pump out two-thirds of the cargo of grain, most of which was saved, before the vessel could be floated. As the hole, which was thirty feet square, was in the bottom, it could not be patched until the boat had been raised. The tug Walker pulled her off, and assisted by the tug Hunter, towed her into the new lock, where she was patched, and was then taken to Cardinal, where the remainder of her cargo was unloaded. It is thought she was not injured much beyond the break in the bottom. She will be taken into Davis' dry-dock tomorrow. J. Donnelly, jr., is acting for the owner, on survey, and as superintendent of the repairs.
General Paragraphs - The str. D.D. Calvin and consorts, Ashland to Garden Island, timber, will arrive tomorrow.
