_______
TONNAGE OWNED IN DETROIT DISTRICT
_______
TOTAL NUMBER OF VESSELS 348
_______
Total Amount of Tonnage 94,401.16
_______

Below will be found a statement of craft owned in this district found on the custom house records at this port. Several new craft were launched near the close of the season, which in a few days will be added to those presented, but are not yet enrolled. Several, during the events of last year, were removed from the district which formerly belonged here. The names of the steamships Amazon and Minneapolis, which were added to last year's tonnage, the former 1,400 tons and the latter 1,072, are not presented in the following exhibit, for the reason that both have been removed, the Amazon having been wrecked on Lake Michigan late in the fall, and the Minneapolis sold to the Englemann Company. During the season of 1873 the following craft were also taken out of the district: steamer City of Sandusky, sold to Canadian parties; the Gen. Sherman sold also in Canada and name changed to Alexander; propeller Meteor, burned at this port; City of Detroit, foundered in Saginaw Bay; J. L. Hurd, sold to Chicago parties; the Arizona, dismantled and converted to a tow barge, and the tug M. I. Mills, sunk in Lake Huron, resulting from a collision from a vessel. The tug Samson was sold to Cleveland parties. Of sailing craft the barkentines Summer Cloud, Zack Chandler and City of the Straits were sold out of the district, also the schooners Floretta, Fame and Light Guard. The schooners Cambridge and Citizen were wrecked during the season, giving a total loss of 2,788 tons:
