New Post-Office. - A post-office has recently been erected at Carleton Island, in the county of Jefferson, N.Y. and Charles Smith, Esq. of Albany, has been appointed post-master. The establishment of this office will greatly facilitate our intercourse with the province of Upper Canada, as we understand it is the intention of Mr. Smith, to cause all letters addressed to places on the Canadian shore, above and below Kingston, to be conveyed by a carrier to the postmaster at Kingston; by whom they will be regularly forwarded in the Canadian mails to their place of destination. An arrangement of this kind has been long required, and we rejoice that it is at length about to be carried into effect, We are desired to state, that the mail from Albany, will arrive at Carlton Island twice a week.
