p.2 City Council - Cedar Island - Ministry of Militia will let Kingston use Cedar Island as a public park under certain conditions; the Board of Trade must run a steam ferry between city and island hourly from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from June 1st to Sept. 1st.



The tug Frontenac is taking on a cargo of withes for Garden Island.

The steambarge Navajo and the schooner Kitchen will clear today for Oswego.

The steamer Glenmount will probably clear for the upper lakes on Wednesday.

The steamer Ames will not clear for some time yet. The crew has been laid off for a while.

Capt. Shaw cleared today with the schooner Bertha Kalkins for Oswego to load coal for Sowards.

It is said that the ferry boat question will form a lively topic of discussion by the Wolfe Island council, very shortly.

The steambarge Hinckley touched at the dry dock, Monday night, on her way from Oswego to Alexandria Bay with coal.

Capt. Oliver cleared with the Tradewind for Oswego on Monday, but for some reason tied up at the penitentiary dock. He cleared again this morning.

The schooner Ford River cleared at ten o'clock, last night, for Oswego, but was waiting at Four Mile Point this morning, for wind. The schooner Tradewind is also at that point.

The steambarge Robert Macdonald (McDonald ?) is unloading coal at Sowards'. She left at seven o'clock, Monday morning, for Oswego, was loading there at three o'clock and is unloading here today.

The steamer Holcomb and consort Warrington, along with the big steel steamer Horton, to carry lumber, lath and shingles from Grand Valley and St. Ann Demonts, Que., to Oswego.

The high water is causing a great deal of trouble to the coal dealers in the east end of the city. At Sowards' coal yard the water is three feet deep in their coal sheds and great difficulty is experienced in getting out the coal.

The government steamer Reserve passed down on Monday afternoon, with the large float used to fix the gasoline buoys. A log cabin is built on the float, so that the buoys are filled after they are placed in position in the water, greatly lessening the danger of an explosion.

The Port Colborne harbor master states that the lake is at its highest level since 1891, caused by land drains into the lake. The government engineer states the lake is a foot higher, due to the prevailing west winds. The canal water book gives the average for the first twelve days in April, 1908, as 15 1/3 feet, and for April 1907, 12 days, 14 5/6 feet. This is at the entrance of the canal.

Tug Has Rough Passage - Cobourg, April 14th - The wrecking tug Saginaw crossed from Cobourg to Charlotte Sunday, the trip taking 12 hours. The Saginaw had a very rough passage and at Charlotte the life saving crew went out, thinking the tug had been blown aground.

The Welland canal opened on Tuesday morning. No westbound boats have arrived to go up yet. The steamer Wahcondah is the only one coming down, bound for Oswego.

p.8 Much Damage Done - Along Shores of Wolfe Island - high water has destroyed Spoor's wharf, Dawson's wharf, Hammond's wharf and steam yacht; island wharf a foot under water, making it difficult for ferry to land.
