L.L. Henderson, of this city, has been appointed general manager of the Montreal Transportation company, in succession to the late J.A. Cuttle. Mr. Henderson has been connected with the company for twenty-five years and succeeded his father, the late P.R. Henderson as manager here, in 1885. He is a popular citizen, an ex-alderman and ex-school trustee, member of board of trade and on Dominion Marine Association's executive, and a brother-in-law of Hon. W.S. Hendrie, of Hamilton. This year he will spend his time between Montreal and Kingston and in the fall will remove his family to Montreal.

His leaving will be regretted by his host of friends, but at the same time he will receive their congratulations, for the well-earned advancement he has received.

p.8 At The Drydock - The steamer Bickerdike is expected to leave the government dry dock on Tuesday evening, and then the barge Ungava and dredge Sir Richard will be docked.

Jan. 12, 1909

p.1 Pith of the News - The war between the Hamilton Steamboat company and the Turbinia company, which resulted in a cutting of the rates during the last two years, is over. The companies will exchange tickets.


Brockville, Jan. 12th - The dominion government has decided to improve the steamboat channel through the Thousand Islands and has let the contract to Mr. Gilbert, of Cardinal for that part of it in the neighborhood of Fiddler's Elbow, in the vicinity of the Morris and M.P. Davis properties. Part of an island in this neighborhood is to be taken away and the channel widened and straightened. The purpose is to make a channel for steamers on the Canadian side so that Canadian vessels can make the complete passage in their own waters.

p.8 Day's Episodes - The steamer Pierrepont is making one trip a day to Cape Vincent now. So far the ice has not troubled the old gun boat very much.


Another transportation company has just been organized in Kingston. The Mooers' elevator will be taken over by this company and suitable steambarges and other floats secured to carry grain from Kingston to Montreal.

Arrangements have been made with certain lake transportation companies to handle all their grain going to Montreal. Ald. W.G. Craig has been chosen as president of this company, and other outside capitalists are represented on the board. They have secured a charter from the Dominion government, authorizing a capital of five hundred thousand dollars and will be known as Forwarders, Limited, Kingston.

p.1 Has Been Incorporated - The Cape Vincent Yacht Club has been incorporated with the following officers and directors: Commodore, S.A. Maxwell, New York; vice-commodore, Cornelius T. Sacket, Cape Vincent; rear commodore, George C. Sherwood, city; fleet captain, Leon L. Peo, Cape Vincent; secretary, James G. Parker, Cape Vincent; treasurer, Alfred L. Dezengremel, Cape Vincent; Charles S. Holcomb and Chester K. Green, Cape Vincent; John E. Beaufort, New York.

p.6 Work on the steamer Bickerdike, in the government dry dock, was completed yesterday, and the barge Ungava will go in the dock next.
