p.1 Internal Improvements - a letter to editor, discussing shipping costs on canals. [Montreal Gazette]

W.H. Merritt, Esquire, President of the Welland Canal Board, has returned from Montreal, having obtained from the Governor General the means wherewith to commence those works on the Canal which are necessary for its permanent enlargement. It is to be wished that no interruption may take place, as delay, without reference to the other inconveniences it occasions, adds very materially to the amount of costs. [Niagara Chronicle]
