p.3 Opening of the Navigation - It is with great pleasure that we congratulate our readers on the gratifying appearance of those harbingers of summer, the steamers. Captain Richardson, with his usual promptitude, has been in the field, or rather the water since the first of March, and the splendid line of boats of Donald Bethune, Esq., or the "Admiral," as many friends naturally call him, has commenced operations for the season by the America starting yesterday from this City for Rochester, via Port Hope and Cobourg. [Toronto Patriot]
Opening of the Navigation - On Monday last, the America called here on her first trip to Rochester; the day was beautifully fine and the wharf was crowded with persons anxious to welcome an old friend. Our amateur band desirous of lending their aid had proceeded out some miles in an open boat and were taken on board the steamer, whose approach to the wharf they cheered with several appropriate airs; thus our harbor has been opened and the navigation commenced; - may reviving trade and activity give a rich harvest to our boats, for none deserves better encouragement and support than the enterprising owner. [Cobourg Star]
