p.2 The Frontenac - This steamer was drawn out on the ways last fall in the Messrs. Ives' Shipyard, where she was originally built, and considerably lengthened - the machinery was also placed in the hold and improvements made in it's construction, - so that the Frontenac is, to all intents and purposes a new boat. The Cabins have been commodiously and tastefully fitted up, affording ample accommodation. This Steamer has been placed on the route between Kingston and Toronto, leaving this port on Monday and Thursday afternoons at 2 o'clock, and Toronto every Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 8 o'clock, touching at the intermediate Ports on her way up and down. The Messrs. Ives have reduced the fare between the two Ports from £1 5s. Cabin, and 10s. Deck, to 17 s. 6d. Cabin. and 7s. 6 d. Deck.
We hope the Frontenac will receive a liberal share of public patronage, and that the powerful Opposition with which she has entered the lists will not resort to unseemly or pitiful expedients to drive her off the only route for which she is adapted.
The Frontenac met with an accident to her machinery on the last upward trip, in consequence of which she was obliged to return to Kingston, being schooner rigged, however, there was little difficulty in that, but we understand the City of Toronto passed her by whilst in distress, which somewhat annoyed the Captain as he was anxious to forward his numerous passengers with as much despatch as possible. The Chief Justice Robinson was more hospitable, and took the Frontenac's passengers to their destination. The damage sustained will be repaired today, and the Frontenac will resume her trips tomorrow.
