p.3 Six years ago there were but two large vessels of any kind on Lake Superior, and not more than one or two white families could be found within 400 miles, from the Sault to La Pointe. Now there are 3 large propellers, and 6 or 7 sail vessels. Four light-houses have been erected, and several thousand inhabitants are scattered along the coast. [Chippewa Advocate]
