p.3 Assizes - Budford vs. Oliver - Case for disturbance of Plaintiff's Ferry - The Government having granted a lease of the Ferry across the Rideau Lake, on the road from Brockville to Perth, to C. Dudley, he afterwards assigned it to the plaintiff. The defendant, who formerly held a lease, after such transfer continued to ferry though it did not appear that he had received payment from the persons carried over. It was contended for the defendant, that as he received no compensation, he was not liable to an action. Something was objected as to the right of the Government to grant a Ferry across a navigable water. A question of law was reserved for the consideration of the Court above. The Jury found a verdict for plaintiff. Damages, 1s.

Dudley vs. Oliver - This action was of the same nature as the last, and the Jury found a similar verdict. [Brockville Recorder]
