p.2 At a general meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Kingston, at the Mansion House Hotel, held on Saturday the 18th inst. pursuant to adjournment, to take into consideration the propriety of forming a Company to navigate the Rideau Canal by steam, John Kirby, Esq. in the Chair, the report of the Company appointed on the Monday previous was read and approved; and a subscription list being opened, and unanimously signed - it was then
Resolved, 1st - That James McKenzie, Robert Drummond, Henry Gilderslieve, John Strange, David John Smith, and Donald Bethune, Esquires, be a committee to build the first Steam Boat agreeably to the report of the Committee, to be ready, if possible, on the opening of the Canal.
2d - That the managing Committee shall be at liberty to call in the first instalment, so soon as the sum subscribed shall in their opinion, be sufficient to build the Steam Boat.
3d - That David John Smith, Esquire, be appointed Secretary, and Treasurer, to the Company.
4th - That subscriptions be solicited throughout the Province.
