p.3 We are happy to announce to the good folks of Kingston, that Messrs. McPherson & Co., of Prescott have taken Mr. Cartwright's Stores for the purpose of commencing the forwarding trade from this to Montreal next spring. This shews that the forwarders on the St. Lawrence are not unanimous in the opinion that produce will pass down the river on the completion of the Rideau Canal.

We understand that the question of at present improving the St. Lawrence has been decided in the House of Assembly, by the rejection of a Resolution for the sum of £50,000. Small sums have been granted in aid of the harbours at Port Hope and Cobourg, the principal and interest to be returned within 10 years. Those improvements are of vast importance to the Province, and particularly so to the District of Newcastle.
