"Steamers "Lake Shore" and City of Naples" held in the ice in Mud Lake, near the "Soo." These boats have head a hard fight with the ice and the elements.

The upper works of both boats are covered with a coating of heavy, slippery ice twenty inches in thickness. A hole must be chopped through the deck house doors and also through the windows of the pilot house, to enable the wheelsman to keep his course.
