279x36x14 Owned by Great Western Railway. Built by L. Shickluna, Niagara Ont. and launched 15/07/54. Engine 70x144 by West Point Foundry, New York. Wheels 36' diameter. Much cabin work done later at Hamilton; maiden voyage 23/06/55. Used on Lake Ontario based on Hamilton. Had a shower for passengers! Service drastically uneconomic; withdrawn before end of second season and sold to American parties for ocean service. Ran St. Lawrence rapids 07/06/58, touched bottom lightly three times. Left Montreal for United States 04/09/58. Renamed "Mississippi" but evidently little used: newspaper July 1860 reported "rotting at one of the wharves on the East River" with all machinery removed. However, ultimately lost at sea 30/08/62 en route South Africa.
