Steam-Boat Superior, Capt. Rogers, returned to this port on Thursday last, having again been disabled on the Lake. Captain R. sailed from here on the 14th inst. for Detroit, and two days after was met by a gale, against which he was making every exertion to proceed, when a heavy sea struck the water-wheels with such force as to overcome the power of the steam, and produce a reaction which carried away one of the crank-wheels of the engine though formed of cast iron, and of immense weight. This accident happened a little above Cleaveland. The Boat rode out the gale at anchor, after which the passengers were landed at Grand River, and Capt. R. returned, by the help of his sails, to this place. This is the second accident of this kind the present season, and it is found by observation to be owing to the improper location of the engine. It is placed too high on the Boat which gives such length to the arms of the water-wheels as to render the engine incapable of controlling them in a rough sea. The Boat is now laid up for the season, and is to be thoroughly repaired the ensuing winter, under the immediate supervision of the engineer, Mr. Calhoun, This measure was rendered absolutely necessary, as well as from the length of time requisite to repair the engine, as from the certainty of its failing again if overtaken by a gale, while located as a present, and while we regret this misfortune as as one likely to produce much public disappointment, we are consoled with the assurance that the boat will take the Lake next season under circumstances that will leave no doubt of her complete success,
