The Northern Transportation Co.s' new steamer Oswegatchie sails from this port for Chicago on her second trip around the Lakes this afternoon. The Oswegatchie was built at the Marine Railway in this village during the last Winter and Spring. She was launched early in July and taken to Cleveland where she was furnished with one of the Cuyahoga Co's propeller engines of seventy-five horsepower, and fitted up in elegant style for the accommodation of passengers, and was ready to sail about the middle of August.

Her dimensions every way are up to the full capacity of the canal locks, extreme length being 148 feet and tonnage 414 tons, new measurement. Her cabins are arranged with an eye to the comfort and accommodation of passengers. She has ten double state rooms, large enough for a family of four persons, plenty of floats, life preservers, boats, pony-pumps and every requisite to guard against accident or escape if overtaken.

The vessel in all her appointments is as near perfect as long experience can dictate. She is staunch, makes twelve miles per hour as ordinary running time is extremely steady, and one of the best sea boats afloat. She is commanded by Capt. Rosman, one of the oldest and most careful of the many good captains of the line, and must become a favorite with those who have the pleasure of making a trip through the lakes on board of her.

She takes a place in the Chicago trade, and makes the trip from Ogdensburg to Chicago in a few hours less than a week. The advent of the Oswegatchie gives the line fifteen first-class steamers, fourteen of them upper cabin passenger boats. On her first trip up, the Oswegatchie had upwards of sixty cabin passengers and downward forty. We wish her and her gallant captain a long and prosperous career.

We understand that it is the intention of the company to build a new steamer, at this place, during the present winter.
