Vessel for Labrador

VESSEL FOR LABRADOR -- Have we a "Codfish Aristocracy" among us? So it would seem, they are decidedly "down at the mouth!" Not to be too figurative, we will explain. This morning's dawn witnessed the departure of the Schooner CHARLOTTE from the mouth of the Genesee, bound for the coast of Labrador, duly manned and equipped for a "search" as well as "visitation" among the cod-fisheries of that region.

This — the pioneer enterprise from this quarter -- may be justly regarded with interest by our citizens, as being the opening of a new, and (may we not hope?) a profitable field for our lake craft - of especial importance to our port in seasons of dull freight, like the present.

Preparatory to this voyage she had recently undergone extensive repairs, the entire enterprise being under the patronage of Comma. Alexander Wilder of Charlotte. Her commander is Captain John Farnham of the same place, well known as a noble specimen of a man, as well as an experienced "tar."

She goes out with a crew of picked fishermen, "eager for the fray," and one passenger, who makes the voyage for the benefit of his impaired health. With good Luck, the CHARLOTTE may be expected on her return trip in early autumn, laden with a full cargo of choice mackerel and cod.
