The difficulties and dangers of navigating Lake Ontario have been greatly increased during the past week by the frequent and sudden squalls. An Associated Press dispatch from Oswego dated Sunday says:

"The Schooner Hattie Howard from Port Hope, Ont., with 270,000 feet of lumber went ashore here today against the west pier. The vessel and cargo are probably a total loss. The schooner's owner, J.W. Lawrence of Oswego says value was $3,000. The cargo was worth $4,000. On Friday afternoon last the schooner Lillian of Sodus was completed to put into Oak Orchard harbor, while on her way to Pultneyville. A large piece of her canvas was carried away by the wind and she had great difficulty in making her way into the port for safety."
