STEAMBOATS UNITED STATES AND OSWEGO. - These splendid and fast sailing vessels, have been recently engaged in two trials of their speed, between Morristown and Ogdensburgh. On the first trial the United States is admitted to have gained the victory. On the second trial, the victory is claimed by the friends of both boats. We have received two communications on the subject, one on each side, attempting to prove that each boat is entitled to the precedence in point of speed, and that each succeeded on the last trial.
However this may be, we are not disposed to open our columns to settle the controversy. We do not believe it would be profitable to our readers or to either of the boats. They are both under the charge and management of skillful and experienced men, and are fully entitled to the full confidence and liberal patronage which is bestowed upon them by the public. We are happy to be enabled to assure the traveling public that the managers of these boats pledge themselves to have no racing hereafter, unless full notice be given.
