STEAMBOAT SPEED. - In the late contest between the Steamboats Oswego and United states, they ran the distance between Brockville and Ogdensburgh in 52 minutes. This is within a very small fraction of 14 miles an hour. Considering these boats are built with great strength, and of close heavy timber to encounter a sea navigation, compared with which the steamboats on the Hudson are mere egg shells, it must be regarded as an extraordinary performance.
