- CPR Steamer Launched
Owen Sound Ont. May 4.
The new steel steamship Manitoba being constructed here for the Canadian Pacific Railway was successfully launched today. A very large number of people arrived by trains and boats to witness the event, which took place at 1:45 p.m. The ship slid from the ways into the water easily and without mishap. The Manitoba is the finest steel steamer ever built in Canada. She is 303 feet in length constructed of plated steel, and has a carrying capacity of 73,000 bushels. Her passenger accommodations is 400. the model and general lines of the vessel are of the finest, while the workmanship is unprecedented in shipbuilding architecture. The Manitoba will be finished and ready to take per place on the Canadian Pacific railway line, between her and Port Arthur, in about six weeks.
