COLLISION--SUPPOSED LOSS OF LIFE.--The steamer Victoria of the Richelieu line while on her downward trip from Montreal, on Tuesday night, was ran into by the steamer Montmorenci. The collision took place in Batsman Bay, at 3 o'clock a.m., when the Victoria was making for the Batsman wharf; the other vessel holding also, it is said, though not in mid channel, her proper course on her way up the river. The Victoria was struck in the stern, on the stern, on the larboard side, had her fan tail and rudder chains carried away, and her upper deck started. The Montmorenci proceeded upwards without waiting to know what damage she caused, and the Victoria managed to drift into the wharf at Batsman, where she was detained for an hour and a half repairing, and arrived here yesterday morning, those passengers who were bound for the Lower St. Lawrence being too late to leave by the Saguenay at 7 a.m. On arrival here, some squaws on board the Victoria found that one of their number was missing, and it is inferred that she must have been asleep near the stern and was drowned when the collision occurred. Her name is Derotte, her husband lives at the Two Mountains, and she was the mother of five children.--Quebec Chronicle, 30th
