Suspended those of Commanders of strs. Yorkton and Mantadoc

Montreal Que. Aug 11. The captains of the Yorkton and the Mantadoc, which were in collision on July 10 off Whitefish Point. Lake Superior, have had their certificates suspended until the end of this year by the Dominions wreck commissioner, Capt. L. Demers, The court recommended that they may be granted mates certificates during the suspension.

The evidence did not demonstrate any “willful neglect, obstinacy or indifference, but a wrong interpretation of the meaning of the rules of the road and their application due to lack of experience , being viewed by the court as a culpable error of judgment.” Capt. Demers stated.

The captains concerned are F.N. Burmister, of the Yorkton and C. B. Kirk of the Mantadoc. As a result of the collision the Yorkton of the Matthews Steamship Company was later beached and lost to the company. The Mantadoc belongs to the Patterson line.
