Capt. Barney Sweeney, the oldest living master of the Goodrich Transit Co., last week passed away at his home in Manitowoc at the age of nearly 80 years. Capt. Sweeney was with the Goodrich company from its inception, a matter of fifty-five years ago., and had sailed on the lakes for more than half a century. He had retired a number of years since, and for some time previous to this held the proud berth of commodore of the line. Captain Sweeney was probably one of the best steamboat men on Lake Michigan, having at some time in his career sailed boats to every one of the ports on its shores that was large enough to float a craft of that size.
