Shocking Accident

Shocking Accident.--A coroner's inquest was called on Sunday last, to examine the dead body of a man named Josiah Smith, in Prescott, who was employed as a fireman on board the Queenston Steamboat. It appeared, on examination, that Smith and another man, (who also was a fireman) left the boat on the evening of the previous day, and were intoxicated when they returned, which was at a late hour.--Smith was left upon deck smoking a pipe, while his companion retired to his birth [berth], below. In the morning Smith was found among the machinery, dead; having fallen head foremost on some of the iron-work, the distance of about ten feet. His head was shockingly mangled. It is understood that he has friends living in Montreal.
