Shipwreck and Loss of Life at Long Point Cut

SHIPWRECK AND LOSS OF LIFE AT LONG POINT CUT.--By letter received from Geo. J. Ready, Esq., Collector at Port Brown [Port Rowan], we learn further in regard to the schooner Hellowell, that she was loaded with lumber and went ashore on the east side of the entrance to the cut during the southwest blow of the 2d inst.--The crew of two vessels laying inside the cut, manned the boats and went to the rescue of the crew. In their laudable efforts to do so, the Captain and Mate of the schooner Lowland Lass were drowned. The Captain's name was Redding, of Port Burwell, and he leaves a wife and children poorly provided for. The crew were rescued on the morning of the 4th inst.
